Justin Hampton was raised in Montgomery from the age of 7 and knows first hand the divisions and potential beauty evident in the city’s culture.
After finishing high school in 1999, Justin attended Tuskegee University where he met the Lord and his life was changed forever. He graduated from Tuskegee and the University of Florida in 2003 and eventually moved to Miami, Florida, to found a basketball skills training service where he developed camps, clinics, and small group training.
Since being recruited to work at Common Ground Montgomery in 2010, he has taken on many roles including athletic outreach director, and now directs the middle school program. This multi-faceted program consists of after school enrichment activities such as urban gardening, culinary arts classes, visual arts, and mentorship, as well as academic enrichment in the form of professional tutoring and financial literacy classes.
Justin also serves as the CGM Summer Resident Mission coordinator. In this capacity Justin supervises and develops a program for up to 20 college-aged interns that work along side CGM staff and supervise our children during the Summer Camp. Th SRM introduces the context of Montgomery’s racial history as well as highlights the influence of our neighborhood on that history. This program teaches about our city’s current tapestry, creates team building opportunities, and exposes the interns to theological training focusing on concepts unique to urban ministry.
Shortly after joining the CGM team Justin married his wife April and they have two children together.
