HOUSE TO HOUSE
A former initiative of Common Ground Montgomery, House to House became its own non-profit organization in 2009. Mike Bunce was executive director for many years before CGM staffer Cornelius “CJ” Jackson took over.
H2H focuses on adult mentoring and financial literacy, as well as housing renovation and home care.
Common ground shoals
In the early summer of 2017, two-time former CGM summer intern, Lee Mayhall, and his roommate, Sky Stewart, both saw they had a heart to see racial justice and reconciliation in their church and distressed communities like the one CGM serves. As they gathered together with members of their local church, they discovered that CGM was also looking to expand its ministry and social initiatives to other areas. Thus CGS was born in the fall of 2017 to serve the greater Muscle Shoals area and beyond.
map & The Mercy House
The Mercy House is a former initiative of CGM that became it’s own non-profit in October 2018 and is run by former CGM staffer and board member, Pastor Ken Austin.
Partnering with New Walk of Life Church, the Mercy House is a “day house” - providing a safe place for people to receive all kinds of help. They serve the emergency food needs, distribute hot meals to the elderly and homeless, and create food availability for latchkey kids after school.
The Mercy House grew so much that a need for a new oversight organization was set up, MAP (Ministry About People), to oversee the combined efforts of the Mercy House, Pathway House, the Youth Navigation Program (an after school and summer program), and the soon to be opened Manna House.
The MAP Center’s current office is located on E. Delano Ave at the old WSFA building, and currently houses their admin staff along with the Salvation Army and a Trenholm State Community College learning site.
Common Ground Troy
In 2019, former CGM summer intern Clint Free moved to Troy, Alabama. After spending several years in Mobile with Trinity Family Ministries, Clint and his family wanted to start a work for disadvantaged youth and families. In January 2020 CGT officially became the second Common Ground affiliate.
They started their inaugural after school program in February 2020.
