october 2020 update

CGM October Update.jpg

It's October and we're still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We're wrapping up the first 9 weeks of our virtual school program. Montgomery Publics Schools are providing optional in-person class learning for the second 9 weeks as well as virtual learning. Since most of the families we currently serve have opted in to returning to school, we'll be transitioning back into our regular after school program; mindful, of course, of following CDC guidelines.

Your continued support for CGM has helped provide stability for many families as they, too, learn to adjust to the pandemic. Some of you heard and helped get us a new oven to help provide hot lunches during our virtual school program. And some of you even heard about little Eva breaking her last pair of glasses and you helped her get new glasses! Thank you for being good neighbors by helping us be good neighbors. By connecting resources and impacting youth, we really can change the city towards a better future for all its residents.

We continue to covet your prayers to effectively and safely run our after school program as well as minister to our community during this pandemic. Together, we are changing the odds here in west Montgomery!

first day of the school year

The new school year is upon us and COVID-19 is still here. That means lots of things are different than normal.

Today also happens to be this kindergartner’s first day of school ever. He was a little reluctant when he showed up and wanted to go home almost immediately, but he got accustomed to everything pretty quickly. Before going home he said had a good day.

We’re glad to be able to provide a safe space, time, and routine for students as they are going virtual for at least the first nine weeks of the academic year as a response to COVID-19.

fall after school program update

Montgomery Public Schools announced last week they would not be going back to in-class instruction when the academic year starts on August 10. Superintendent Ann Roy Moore announced last Wednesday that MPS would do virtual instruction for the first 9 weeks to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the city.

Our after school program will adopt the following changes:

  • CGM will be a daytime hub for students in our program, and our goal will be to have them from 7 am - 3 pm

  • Students may use our computers to conduct their online academic instruction from 8 am - noon (stage 1)

  • Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided (stage 2)

  • The program will be for 40 students

Our Pre-K program will still open on August 10th, with 18 students.

UPDATE: Language to the after school program was updated on 8/31/2020.
