fall 2013 volunteering

Fall 2013 has arrived at CGM!!! We have many wonderful things planned for the After School Program's enrichment programs.  We will have teachers again for each grade, so any tutors will not be directly responsible for leading a group of kids - you can just jump in with whatever the teacher has planned - we hope this makes it easy for you to participate.

We will be hosting 2 opportunities for volunteer orientations.  Thursday, August 22 @ 7 PM and Saturday, August 24 @ 10 AM.

PLEASE plan on trying to come to one of these training opportunities. We will be talking in detail about the programs, how to help the teachers, as well as general info about volunteering in an urban setting. The first day available for tutoring will be the following Monday, August 26.

If you will be attending or are interested in more information, please use the volunteer contact form at: VOLUNTEER

We look forward to a relationship with you!

2013 summer camp comes to a close

It's that time of the summer when the bus and vans are going to finally get a rest; it's the end of our Summer Camp.

There have been fun times, and hard times, good times, and sad times. As the kids are on the bus coming back from Camp Blue Lake and as our college interns prepare to go back home tomorrow, thanks to everyone that helped make this Summer Camp happen.

Maybe you prayed, maybe you gave money, maybe you volunteered, maybe you got the interns a meal, maybe you loved on one of our staff, maybe you did any number of things; regardless, whether you planted, watered, or harvested, you've invested in the kingdom of God in Washington Park and Montgomery, Alabama. Theological intellectual assent aside on that, you loved on us, our community, and our kids and we hope that in some small way (or even a big way, we'd like that, too) you met and sat with our most gracious savior who "makes something beautiful out of dust" and "makes something beautiful out of us".

Thanks for walking with us as we try to walk with Jesus.

2013 summer camp sponsorships

Will you help us send a child from our urban community to Common Ground Montgomery’s Summer Camp Program?

Common Ground Montgomery's Summer Camp is a great opportunity for you to help us love our community and make a big difference! Consider the benefits:

PHYSICAL: Children in the Summer Camp are kept off the streets and away from destructive behavior to be loved on and invested in during the eight-week program.

SPIRITUAL: Our staff teaches weekly Bible studies to help the campers learn and live out the Gospel. As part of our Summer Resident Missionary Program, we have college students come to live in the community as they lead small groups and mentor children in the program. We also bring in Junior Interns who are high school students who have participated in our After School Program. These students work with the college interns and receive guided leadership opportunities.

ACADEMIC: We have a focused academic program to help combat academic deficiencies that many of our children have as a result of our impoverished and neglected community.

SOCIAL: Not only do we bring in a diverse group of volunteers for this camp, but also we take the campers outside the community so that they experience others and learn how to biblically relate to them as well.

Our goal is to have 100 1st-12th grade children in camp everyday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM for eight weeks! We can do all the above with God's blessing at $400 for each camper. Will you prayerfully consider joining with us in transforming Montgomery as we continue to develop the youth in our community?
